I say it's time for a song, and this one is a favorite of mine. But then again, all the songs I do are favorites of mine. This one was written by the great Mexican composer, Armando Manzanero, who is of Mayan ancestry.

Born in 1935, he is still alive and is 80 years old. He has been writing songs since 1950, many of which have become mega-hits. He is of immense international renown, and now he devotes much of his time to fostering musical development among Mexican youth.

This song was written as Esta Tarde Vi Llover, and it is magnificent. It has such a clean, straightforward, uncluttered melody, and yet, it absolutely soars. And to me, that's genius, musical genius.  The English lyrics written by Gene Lees come close to matching the Spanish ones written by Armando. The English title is Yesterday I Heard the Rain. I am dedicating this to Tricia Scott, for the courage she shows every day.
