What the hell is going on with his glasses?

What the hell? I can't even describe it, it is so weird. On his left, it looks like swimmer's goggle. And on the right, there is a weird opacity over his eye, the result being that we don't see either of his eyes at all. That is the weirdest glasses I have ever seen in my life. But, go ahead, enemies; keep defending it. It's yours. You own it.
