I want to look further at the issue of Jack Ruby wiring $25 to Karen Carlin immediately before  shooting Oswald, supposedly.  In shooting Oswald amidst a swarm of police, Ruby had to know that he was destroying himself, his entire life. And once he made the decision to do it, he had to know that all would be lost to him, including his business. Really, it was like him committing suicide, and actually worse, in my opinion. So, why would he preoccupy himself with such a mundane thing as wiring an employee $25 right before knowingly burning up everything in his life?

I am reminded of the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson in which there is an annual tradition in a small town to stone someone to death because they think it will insure a good harvest. The preparations are done as if they they were choosing someone to be homecoming king or queen. And up until the time of the announcement, in which all the townspeople are gathered, as are the stones, people go about their daily lives doing the mundane things, like hurrying to get the dishes washed before it's time for the big event. But, once the slip is drawn and the person identified, the execution is swift and merciless.

There has been a lot of debate about what the story means, and I share the view of those who say it's about the military draft, in which young men are torn from their everyday lives to go off to war, and if they die, it amounts to the same thing, basically. But, the story is written in a "bizarro world" way, where people's actions and attitudes are divorced from reality.

Well, that's what I'm saying about Jack Ruby; that for him to intend to shoot Oswald amidst a swarm of police and right before that to be wiring petty money to Karen Carlin is like something out of The Lottery. He would have had to be completely divorced from the reality of what he was about to do, like he just didn't get it.

And that's why the people- the very, very stupid people- who think that Jack Ruby shot Oswald because the Mafia ordered him to do it- are about as obtuse, as disconnected and divorced from reality as the folks in The Lottery. It is extremely childish and uncomprehending to believe such a thing.

Jack Ruby had no intention of shooting Lee Harvey Oswald, and there isn't a stitch of evidence that the Mafia ordered him to do it. Jack Ruby had plans for that very afternoon; he was going to start moving into the swanky new apartment that he had leased. How could he expect to do that if he knew he was going to be murdering someone within a swarm of police? If he knew he was going to be doing that, think about the preparations he would have made: for his business, for his dogs, for everything in his life- to which he was never returning. But, he made no such preparations. Hence, he could not have planned to shoot Oswald.

And the notion that he did it on impulse is equally unsupported and unjustified, as there were no antecedents suggesting that he was capable of such a rash act.

Jack Ruby was completely and totally innocent. Due to drugs and psychological manipulation, he was made to believe that he shot Oswald even though he had no memory of doing it. And the reason why he had no memory of doing it is because he didn't do it. What we saw on television was just an enactment, a staged spectacle, and playing the role of Jack Ruby was FBI Agent James Bookhout. I can't speak for all the reporters, but for the police, they were ALL acting; they were all in on it- every last one of them. The order came down from Washington- meaning LBJ and J.Edgar Hoover- that Oswald must die. That's LBJ, the guy who killed Kennedy; he also killed Oswald. And just as Oswald was the patsy in the JFK murder, Jack Ruby was the patsy in the Oswald murder. Figuring out exactly when they killed Oswald is something that some of us are now working on, diligently.
